Review: The soundtrack was edgy and caught my attention. The cinematography in the opening scenes and credits along with the soundtrack had me hooked immediately. It created suspense and set the tone for what i thought would be a deep psychological mind fuck of a scary movie. But as I like to say, "a horror movie is like pizza; even when it's bad, it's still good." I like how scary movies can take everything to the most extreme and ridiculous lengths, and every one wants to go along with it and believe it, just for the sake of getting scared. Horror movies either succeed in making the scenario believably frightening, or hilariously outrageous. I enjoy both very much, especially while high. The Collector did have me going back and forth between "oh shit this is SO fucked up and disturbing!" to "hahaha he just kicked that guy back into the suitcase again! (for 5oth time)" Computer animated large creepy insects were a definite focal point in the film, particularly spiders. This puzzled me. His name had nothing to do with spiders. He didn't collect spider paraphernalia . He didn't lose his parents in a freak spider accident as a child. I like to know my serial killers. Sympathize with them, learn the method to their madness. There is always a method. After smoking again after the movie, I eventually made the connection. The way The Collector trapped his victims in the house, mimics the way spiders use a web to trap their prey. One scene even included sharp metal wire webbed through the kitchen so his victims could not walk through without getting stuck. He is a spider. I will not go into the entire story line of what happens because I don't want to ruin it for you. If you enjoy horror films, you will like this. If you are looking to understand The Collector, know how and why he chooses his victims, or why he wears a creepy Hannibal Lecter/Texas Chainsaw Massacresque leather mask, you will just have to wait for the sequel. Trust me, there has to be. And only the best scary movies set up the ending so that there is the possibility of creating multiple sequels.
